Small breeds of dogs are more susceptible to the effects of adverse weather, so they need clothes more than others. Even if you do not want to buy overalls, jackets and so on, decorated with various details, then you cannot do without functional items of clothing. A dog should have winter clothing and shoes.
Options for walking are made of practical materials, from which it is easy to wash off pollution. In the fall, not too dense fabrics will fit that will protect from moisture. For winter clothing for dogs, the presence of insulation is important. It is the latter group that is most popular with owners of mini-dogs.
Shoes are needed not only to protect against dirt and salt, which is sprinkled on the roads, but also to prevent glass, stones, metal parts that may lie in the grass from damaging the paws.
All sorts of decorative wardrobe items do not always carry functionality. They can act as a decoration of the animal. Such options are also gaining popularity and conquering markets at a rather high speed.
If you know how to sew or knit a little, you can make clothes for your pet yourself. If you have not done this before, then first try to sew a new piece of clothing for a dog from an old jacket, raincoat, jeans or other clothes. And we consider the basic patterns of clothing for dogs.
How to take measurements from a dog
Designations in the picture:
- back length from withers to tail
- neck girth
- chest girth
- waist girth
- distance between legs (length of abdomen)
- chest width
- front foot length
- length of hind legs
- belly length for males
- distance from ear to ear
- head circumference
- girth of the muzzle
To properly take measurements of a dog, you need to consider a few points. The dog should be as close as possible to the usual position, and then it should be measured in several places. You must measure the back, neck and chest, waist, abdomen (in length), the width of the sternum, legs (in length), crown, diameter of the head and muzzle.
An example of a simple blanket for a dog. Pattern
To make a blanket for a dog, you need to die out back (AB) and neck (BAB). Detail of the back can be made from one or two parts. If the piece is one, then the material must be folded in half. It is important to leave allowances.
Now you need to attach the gate and back in the direction of the BAB. In this case, the points must coincide. The collar is sewn in a circle, the belt is sewn on the bottom. Let the so-called T-part bends around the back of the animal and acts as a fixative. Where point B is, make a loop intended for the tail. The width of the belt can be increased: then it will close almost the entire belly. On the wrong side you can sew a heater.
Knitted blanket for dogs
Designations in the picture:
- neck girth;
- back length from neck to tail;
- the distance from the neck to the elbow joint;
- belt width on the abdomen, depending on the desire;
- 2/3 of neck circumference;
- 2/3 of chest circumference;
- 7 + 9 = 1/3 of chest circumference plus 2-5 cm;
- collar width, depending on desire.
To make a knitted blanket, you need to measure the neck, back, the distance between the neck and elbow, the width of the belt and collar. You also need to calculate such values as 2/3 of the neck, 2/3 of the sternum.
Start the product with the gate. 1 cm should be 2-3 loops. Continue to knit in a circle until you get the desired length, and then close one third of the loops. Continue to knit back, through a row, add around the loop at the edges. After the back is equal to the width of the chest, do not cover the loop. Approximately 10 cm to the bottom edge, lower two loops at the edges. Belly and paws need to knit separately. From what length they are obtained, it will depend on where the zipper is located.
Pattern vest for dogs
For tailoring a vest, you will need to measure your back and chest in the area behind the elbow. The length of the back divided into 10 parts. This will be the side of one square on the grid. Make a grid on the sheet, and then transfer the drawing to the pattern. Do not forget to leave allowances.
The belly will be made of one piece. If necessary, the manufacture of lining will need to cut out two copies of parts. After you dock the lining with the main product, sweep the parts. Next, you need to sew the parts of the abdomen and back so that the letter notation matches. Then you can begin to process the armhole and collar.
Knit a sweater for a puppy dog mini breed
To make a sweater for a mini puppy, you need to put a sock so that the heel is pointing up. Mark the holes for the paws. It should be borne in mind that the heel will be located on the stern of the puppy. Before cutting the holes, walk along the usual seam for future cuts. Hook carefully tie up the legs and sleeves. Then sew them and make a hole intended for the tail. Do not forget that in order for the dog to relieve need, you also need to make a hole.
How to make a dog T-shirt
T-shirt is also easy to do. For its tailoring, use a children’s t-shirt. Mark on it the length of the dog’s back. The cut of the lower back is done on a convex line, and the lower abdomen is concave. The widest will be the place where the sternum is located. Now you need to process the cuts, not forgetting the sweeping of the side seams to B. Make a fitting and, if necessary, increase the size of the armhole. Now sew the parts and do not forget about the need to process the seams.
How to make a sweater for a small dog
To make a small dog a sweater, you can use a sleeve from a similar human wardrobe item. It is desirable that it be made in the style of large knitting. Add about 5 cm to the length of the back. Make a marking of the places where the sleeves will be, cut holes and cut the cuts. Cut two rectangular pieces from the unused part of the sweater and sew two cylinders. These will be the sleeves that you sew to the main part. Do not forget to process the bottom.
Pattern hoodies for dogs
For the manufacture of sweatshirts you need to measure the back and sternum. Make a jersey pattern. Do not forget about allowances. Form a hood, fasten the details of the sternum and back, and then sew the product. For decoration you can trim the edges with bright braid.
How to tie a dog hat
To knit a cap, pre-dial 20 loops with knitting needles, knit 10 cm and count the number of loops in one cm. Measure the dog’s head and divide the resulting value in half. Type the resulting number of loops and make a canvas, corresponding to the height of the cap, multiplied by two. Along the edges (about 5 cm), make a binding with a rubber band. Now fold the product in half so that the gum protrudes from the front side for a couple of cm. Then sew the seams together. The corners of the resulting cap can be decorated with decorative elements. To get a set, you can tie an additional scarf.
If you show a little patience, then sewing clothes for your pet is not at all difficult. Money and time it will also take a minimum. In addition, you may have an interesting hobby that will benefit both you and your beloved dog.
Patterns for dogs of small breeds
In any weather, despite the words “every weather is grace,” people are used to using clothes. Thin, transparent and light, warm, wind-proof, waterproof, sun-protection and just beautiful to stand out from the crowd.
From a young age, the child is wrapped in diapers and worn romper, the puppy should also be worn, though not from birth, but from the time when he can do without the mother and her warmth. Let’s find out which clothes are suitable for small dogs, learn how to measure a pet and make a pattern. Also give tips on making clothes with your own hands for decorative rocks.
Tailoring on dogs
Any clothes for small dogs can be stitched and tied with your own hands, but for this you need to stock up:
- Patience and perseverance;
- Tools – sharp scissors, measuring devices;
- Natural cloth and padding;
- Haberdashery – buttons, zippers and velcro;
- Decor elements – ribbons, ruffles, stripes, etc.
All small dogs need clothes, they must match the time of year and weather conditions. In the heat, they suffer – the short-haired are not protected at all and can get sunstroke. Long-haired in the heat are protected from sunstroke, but they become hot, and do not want to go for a walk. Therefore, useful clothing made of lightweight materials with a natural composition. Patterns of such clothes can be found on the Internet. There are patterns of hats and crochet schemes with their own hands, as well as dresses for girls.
For the winter period, a jumpsuit with a filling — a synthetic winterizer and a balon’s top layer — is perfect. Inside, such a jumpsuit is better to sheathe a lining of soft hypoallergenic fabric. Let the dog have such overalls for replacement. In winter, you also need a hat and sweater, warm pants. In his pajamas, the dog will be happy to run around the house, this option is suitable when the heating in the house is turned off – for example, in the fall or spring, when it is cold. We knit sweaters and knit pants for winter – this is a great idea to warm your four-legged friend.
In the autumn and spring in rainy weather, dogs put on raincoats, raincoats, boots, so as not to wet their paws. Animals, like us, must be protected from hypothermia and excess pollution, especially in the slush.
In order to properly sew clothes with your own hands, you need to take measurements, then increase the patterns that you took from the Internet. And only then transfer the drawing from the patterns to the fabric. There is nothing complicated about this, the main thing is not to forget about seam allowances. If you do not want to search for ideas on the Internet or literature, you can create a model yourself and draw patterns by yourself. In this case, you become a fashion designer for your Chihuahua or York.
How to measure a puppy
Whether you sew for an adult dog or for a puppy, patterns should be made on the basis of your dog’s measurements. Here are some more tips, maybe they will come in handy when designing clothes with your own hands for a pet:
- Before measuring, put a dog on 4 paws evenly, arm yourself with a centimeter and measure;
- The widest places are required to measure, so the patterns will be correct, and the clothes will repeat the curves of the dog body;
- To the clothes, when sewing which you use patterns, sat freely, add by a centimeter or two, and then add half a centimeter to the seam allowances.
If you measured a dog, try to make patterns with their own hands on paper. To do this, draw a rectangular area. On it, mark the points of the half-neck, if it does not fit on the rectangle, extend it in the right direction. Then you need to note the length of the back or product along the rectangle. The place of the neck and armhole must be rounded and connect the necessary points. Consider what half the pattern is doing. When the pattern you attach to the fabric bent in half, expanding the material, get more detail.
Models and patterns
Your model should not only wear fashion clothes, but the following things should be present in her wardrobe:
- Cloth or in other words a cape;
- Winter coveralls;
- Raincoat or rain coat;
- Sun suit with a hat made of natural fabric;
- Knitted or crocheted sweater, hats, socks.
The rest of the dog is not particularly needed, it’s just the cost of style and the whim of the owners. As you have already noticed, first you need to get a blanket. This interesting cape is sewn very easily, and the patterns are drawn in two accounts. It represents a hole in the “sleeve”, sometimes this sleeve is literally cut off from the owner’s unnecessary clothing.
For boys of toy terrier, york, chihuahua or pugs, the front end is always shorter than the back. This is in order to be able to cope with needs, without smearing the blanket. Before usually ends at chest level or tuck over the chest. Such clothes with their own hands protects the pet’s kidneys and chest from hypothermia.
Each breed has its own shape of the body and the patterns must also be made special. For example, for Yorkshire terrier dog breeds, the zipper in a jumpsuit should be placed at the top of the back line, since their wool falls from the middle of the back. In order not to hook the wool and not tear the shred, the velcro should also be placed strictly in the upper part of the product. Most often the clothes of Yorkies are decorated with different frills, ribbons and bows, lace inserts and buttons. Such a model of clothes suits him very much, especially if york is a girl.
Consider a few more examples, so for a mopsick or a dachshund, a hoodie is perfect, by the way, the chihuahua is also very hood. If the hood your dog does not like to wear, you can tie a hat. Knitting is easy enough, you must first measure the circumference of the head. Depending on the thickness of the thread, binding will be different. Knit a few centimeters with a rubber band and count how many 1 cm of loops. The measured number of centimeters must be multiplied by the number of loops. Typically, a set of loops is 2 loops * head girth in cm. The remaining actions on knitting are the owner’s imagination of the dog. But most often the cap is knitted in the shape of a square, and pompons are sewn on the sides.
Download patterns can be on any site about dogs, you will always find such a topic as "patterns and clothing for dogs." They describe in more detail the process of making clothes, crocheting and knitting. By the way, in knitting magazines there is a full description of knitting of the most fashionable clothes for small dogs. Remember that knitting and modeling clothes with your own hands on your pets can become the most favorite hobby in the world.
Pattern overalls for dogs do it yourself
What is needed?
Before proceeding to the active stage of work, you need to choose the material for the future overalls. In this matter, it is necessary to give preference to light fabric, which has a water-repellent effect and a dense edge, which will help save time on the treatment of seams.
Of course, in the wardrobe your dog may have several options for outerwear, but if this is not the case, then you should try to make the product as versatile as possible (for any weather). For this, in addition to the material for the upper layer, it is necessary to prepare a warmer linings.
Important! If your dog constantly participates in exhibitions, then you know how important it is to properly care for its wool, so it is better to choose a material with a smooth texture (for example, viscose or silk) so that the fabric does not confuse or damage the hairs. In addition to the fabric, we immediately prepare other components of successful work:
- lightning (it is most convenient to use a tractor variety, especially since it has a high level of reliability and durability, so that you do not need to fear mechanical damage to the teeth or other breakage);
- an elastic band (give preference to a product that is round in cross section: it is easier to adjust and less stretchable);
- a fastener on a collar (we choose on the discretion: a flypaper, a button or the button).
You can also choose additional fittings that, from a design point of view, will help make the jumpsuit more interesting.
How to make dog measurements?
When you have decided on the fabric and model of the future jumpsuit for your dog, it’s time to move on to taking measurements, since it is unlikely to do without a full-size pattern. Find out what your dog shoes for. First you need to measure the length of your pet’s body, starting from the neck to the very base of the tail. The value obtained in centimeters divided into 8 parts, with the result that 1/8 of the total length will be equal to 1 cell on the pattern sheet.
It is necessary to draw out the whole sheet with such cells (for small and medium-sized dogs it will be enough to draw paper or a piece of wallpaper), preparing an uncomplicated scheme of the future product.
After completing this task, we proceed to measuring the neck circumference (denoted as KD), the front (LI) and hind paws (MN), the volume of the animal thigh (GH), and the place where the front paw becomes a scapula (YD).
Do not forget to measure the waist circumference (AB) and chest volume in the place of the greatest depth of the chest (GV). Finally, we measure the circumference of the tail in order to subsequently make a hole of the desired size (F – 3). Important! If you are not a professional and for the first time are engaged in tailoring of overalls, for a start make a trial version using old material (for example, an unnecessary sheet). To build a pattern for a normal overalls for a dog, these measurements will be quite enough – provided that you are more interested in comfortable fit, and not in pockets in some places or any other additions that require other measurements.
All received measurements should be transferred to the paper, connecting the points among themselves. In the upper part, you need to add 30 mm to the measurements for the back of the animal.
Making a pattern with your own hands
Immediately it should be noted that as a result of cutting the paper scheme you should have several separate parts: the pattern of the back, tummy, breast, sleeves and hood (if you are going to add it to the product).
If you are going to sew a product from only one type of fabric, which is simpler, the separation of pants from the chest is not required. But if you have two types of fabric and you want the overalls to consist of two parts, then you should draw a dividing line on the largest piece of paper (back) with a ruler (it starts at the bend from the side of the abdomen and goes up). It will be useful for you to learn more about how estrus in dogs goes. Now we lay out the fabric (in the horizontal direction, there should be a dividing thread) and put the largest paper pattern on the back on top, bending the back part and securing it with pins.
Allowance for seams should be left on all sides (1 cm on the concave lines, and 1.5 cm on the other sides, 2 cm from the bottom of the hem). To do this, stepping away from the paper part specified distance, put a line of soap with a piece of soap. Cutting one part along the marked lines, we proceed to the similar marking of the rest. Important! Apply allowances, as well as cut the fabric, you only need to along the line of the former fold, since the rest of the already cut from another material. Next, jokes the paper pattern of the hood to the fabric, retreat from all sides by 1.5 cm and draw the same lines with soap. Cut the fabric on the marked symbols and get the finished pattern of the hood.
If you have it will consist of two colors, then in the finished form should get two patterns of each of them (before you apply a paper tenderloin, you must fold the fabric in half). Now again we take the paper pattern of the back and unbend the folded part to make it a pattern of a different color.
Fasten it with pins to the fabric and circle it with soap, leaving the same allowances of 1.5 cm.
As a result, you get two separate parts of the "paper back". Now, according to the same principle, we cut the breast and sleeve of fabric. As for the latter, often on the pattern of the part that goes to the tummy, it turns out from below already than the part going to the back, so it is advisable to equalize them. You will be interested to learn how to train a dog to a beginner. To do this, we first pin the part going to the back, to the folded fabric twice, and then we insert the second paper pattern (going to the stomach) to the corner of the future neck. After that, the second, until the item is not attached to the fabric, must be moved to a distance that is not enough.
Having placed two pieces of the sleeve side by side on one double fabric, retreat to the sides of 1.5 cm, and from the bottom – 2 cm and cut the detail (along the perimeter, without cutting the fabric into two parts, like a paper pattern).
A separate element should be cut out and the strip under the lock, so that the slider does not tighten the coat of the dog. The length of this strip should be equal to the length of the chest without one centimeter. Again, fold the fabric in half and draw a rectangle 3-3.5 cm wide. After adding allowances, you can cut out this part.
From the lining, all the details are cut out in the same way (first you need to fold the fabric in half), only when cutting the sleeves, you do not need to leave allowances for the hem, but simply draw around the already existing pattern, bending the bottom part. The same is done with the pattern of pants, leaving no allowances. Did you know? Dogs can distinguish up to 250 words and even count to 5. Their intellect is at the level of two-year-old human children. When patterning the back, it is no longer necessary to separate part of the pants and breast, and we simply circle the part around the entire perimeter, retreating everywhere by 1.5 cm, only in the lower part, leaving no room for a hem. In order for the hood to be fastened, we also cut out a strap from the fabric (rectangle 3×4.5 cm in size + allowances).
When you already have all the components of the future suit, it remains only to sew them together. Let’s start, perhaps, with the easiest and stitch our strap on the hood and the bar under the lock.
This should be done only from two sides: from the top and bottom, so that in the future it was possible to turn the part to the front side and to smooth it properly. Pull out the corners of the parts with a needle, only gently so as not to pull out the stitching threads.
Finished and ironed elements are once again stitched around the perimeter, leaving only the cut side untouched (bend, top and bottom are processed). We take the parts for the hood and manually connect them, after which we stitch everything on the machine along the same seams. The front part can be sealed with several lines, or it can be supplemented with a fur strip.
All processed indents are cut off, leaving only half a centimeter after the line. Then we twist the hood and iron all the allowances towards the central part. It remains to perform a decorative line, departing 1 mm from the edge of the seams (set the machine mode to 4). To care for your dog, you will need a furminator. Stitching the inside of the hood (from another fabric) is performed in exactly the same way, after which its internal and external parts are stitched together (we connect them “by face” and then turn them out).
Now is the time to sew the back and pants (an option when the pattern of the overalls for the dog was done with the use of two types of fabric), which is also easy to do with your own hands, following the step by step instructions.
We fold these two parts with the front sides to each other, grind them back 1.5 cm from the edge, cut off the extra parts, iron them and make a decorative line on the front side. When the back of the future clothes became one, fasten the insulation to it (from the wrong side) and weave it.
The same is done with the sleeves, and if some part of the insulation got out, it can always be cut. When the insulation has taken its place on the largest part of the pattern (back + pants), we proceed to stitching the latter: we bring together the side seams of each part (the insulation must be on the outside) and weave them back 1.5 cm from the edge.
Important! Carrying out the machine line, try to grab the insulation only at the very edge, and if he got out more – cut it off with scissors so that it does not thicken the trouser-legs. At the bottom there should be 2 cm of fabric for hemming, so if the sintepon came to this distance, it should also be cut off. Ideally, smooth the seam on the legs so that there are no bulges when processing the side parts.
Now sew the sleeve on the back, just do not confuse the line running to the stomach with the line running to the back (the one above). Having stitched one, we do the same with the other, not forgetting to cut off excess fabric and synthetic winterizer on allowances.
Allow the iron to the side of the sleeve and near the main seam make decorative stitching from the side of the sleeve. Next, connect the sleeves with part of the breast. The stitches should be stitched backing 1.5 cm from the edge. Having completed this task, we turn everything on the wrong side and proceed to the connection of the seam of the sleeve with the side seam.
Important! At the side of the seam, do not sew up to the edge of the breast 1.5 cm and insert the elastic (just sew it at the distance specified from the edge along with the side seam). Processing the seam of the sleeve (retreating from the edge of 2 cm), is performed with a corner stitching diagonally (not around the perimeter, but slightly inclined). When bending the sleeves, this will contribute to a more accurate combination of adjacent seams.
By stitching together all the parts, you need to reduce the allowance along the entire perimeter of the product to 1-1.5 cm. You can also treat the seams with a zigzag. For more convenience, in the place of sewing the sleeves to the body part, we make several notches (this way the sleeve will be softer and there will be no folds on the front side).
Removing everything, we once again iron the seams and sew the decorative elements: emblems, buttons, buttons, etc. It is important to do this before the lining is sewn.
Go to the connection details of the lining. Similarly, we sew pants, and then we connect a part of the back with a part of a sleeve and a tummy. If you chose a smooth material for the lining, then the seams are additionally processed on the overlock.
Fold the side seams (sleeve seam and side seam). On the one hand, we perform a line, not finishing 1.5 cm to the end (as was done with the main fabric), and on the other, we only ostrozhim edges, leaving a hole for turning the overalls.
Now we take the hood and turn it over to the side that should later be in the middle. We fasten the front parts of both parts together at a distance of 5 cm from the edge, thus combining the edge of the jumpsuit with the edge of the front part of the hood.
Then we take the lining and, twisting it onto the front side, sew it to the inner face of the hood. Similar actions are performed on the other side (5 cm from the edge).
After the corners of the jumpsuit are connected to the lining, take the last one and connect it with the inside of the jumpsuit – right sides to each other. As a result, the inside of the overalls should be sewn to the lining, and the outer part should be sewn to the product itself.
Sew strap to the hood, departing 1 cm from the edge and leaving 1 mm at the bottom.
Time to move on to the zipper. If necessary, it should be shortened to 1.5 cm from the bottom and from the top (seam allowances). We open the zipper and sew it to the parts of the breast parts (teeth out), so that it remains about 2 cm to the edge. , but does not reach its edge).
The whole construction is covered with lining and stitched again in the same seam. Do not forget to cut the seam allowance and bend it to the side of the breast. The upper edge of the lightning also needs to bend and only then finish everything to the end.
Similar actions are performed on the other side: raising the lining, the zipper is placed teeth out (the runner on its front side should look down).
From this side, the zipper at the top is sewn over the already attached strap on the hood. Now we cover the lining and sew it along the same stitch. When the zipper is fixed, take the edges of the rubber band (so that it can taper) and pin to the seam with a zipper (it must retreat 1.5 cm from the edge so that the seam can tighten).
The same is done on the other side.
Fastening the gum on both sides so that it can be stretched and sewn, we make a line along the zipper, moving to the hood, while stitching the upper part of it and moving to the second part with a lock.
To perform the task it is better to use a special foot for the zipper stitch.
If you have sewn everything up normally (you can make sure of this by twisting the jumpsuit slightly), cut off the parts of the fabric protruding above the seams, leaving only 0.5 cm, and make notches at the bend of the hood.
Now we will sew the hood. To do this, turn it over and fill it in between the lining and the main part of the product. On both sides, turn up the corners and connect the two parts of the hood, sweeping them together. At the same time it is necessary to ensure that all its seams coincide.
Next, we look for places of sewing lining to the main part and, departing 5 cm from the edge (exactly at these marks), we begin to sew a hood to the fabric. Be sure to make sure that it lies flat, and there are no ugly irregularities (all layers should be pulled together). Also, before stitching the seam, be sure to mark the center of the hood.
In conclusion, we sew up the lining manually with the parts already taken in (the hood and the main part), and after the machine stitch we cut all the protruding parts closer to the seam line, leaving about 5-7 mm.
In places of strong rounding, make notches so that the hood lays down more smoothly. We turn the product on the front side, and, retreating from the line of connection about 0.5 cm, we fix the internal allowance, after having smoothed it down (first sweeping away manually, and then starting the line along the entire lower part).
To better see the result, smooth all seams with an iron.
Did you know? The only dog church is located in the USA, where it was built in the 19th century by the artist Stefan Hanek. So he expressed his gratitude to his own five Labradors, who helped him overcome a serious illness. When the upper part is ready, again turn out the lining (lifting it up) and process the edges of the pants. We fold the front part of the lining of the pants with the front side of the base material, and then we dress each leg from the lining on the similar detail of the main material (just turn it out).
The seams on both materials must match. With the right combination, the front part of the lining will be at the bottom and adjoin to the front part of the main fabric. To leg seams did not move out, they better pin pin.
For greater convenience of working inside, you can fill the sleeves and all the extra parts, leaving only the unstitched side seam of the jumpsuit. The cuts on both types of fabric (from two sides) are combined with each other and are cleaved. At the same time, the lock strap should be moved a little higher so that it does not interfere with work.
Important! It is better to first secure the chest, simultaneously stretching the gum, and only then go down to the pants. As soon as you pick up all the products around, lay a line and cut off the excess, leaving only 0.5 cm from the seam. Next on the sleeve we find the hole left before and carefully turn out the whole product through it, then fill each part in the space reserved for it.
Smooth the edge of the jumpsuit with an iron and, retreating from it 0.5 cm, lay a decorative circular line (through the hood), and stitch parts with a rubber band in a zigzag. At this stage, it remains to hem the jumpsuit underneath, to process the sleeves and the trouser legs, and also to sew a flypaper on the hood.
Let’s start with pants. We turn the legs on the wrong side and, securing the padding with a padding polyester, turn the left part of the main fabric, stitching the holes for the legs in a circle. Finished with his trousers, go to the sleeves.
First we sew a hole through which we twisted our jumpsuit. To do this, tuck the fabric allowances inwards, sweep away the two edges of the material, and then stitch them on top.
Go to the extreme part of the sleeve and sew the lining, to later bend the seams of the main fabric and stitch the holes in a circle. Try to make sure that the lining does not stretch, but slightly protrudes behind the inner seam of the fold, otherwise, when the dog moves, ugly folds will appear on the outer part of the jumpsuit.
Sew more Velcro on the hood and all – in front of you ready-made clothes for your pet.
Pattern for dogs of small breeds – we sew clothes ourselves
Pattern for dogs of small breeds is made easy if you have even the slightest experience of sewing. It is important to choose which model you want to sew to the dog. Necessary clothes in the winter and in the offseason are blankets, vests and overalls.
When there is snow and ice on the streets, the little shoes will not hinder boots. After all, the city streets are sprinkled with various reagents that can damage the dog’s delicate paws.
Pattern for dogs of small breeds – Taking measurements
Pattern for dogs of small breeds begins with the removal of measurements. You need to measure the following parameters:
- The length of the back from the neck to the base of the tail;
- Neck girth;
- Chest girth behind the front paws;
- Tummy girth at the waist;
- The distance between the front and hind legs (length of the tummy);
- The distance between the front legs (breast width);
- The distance between the hind legs (width of the tummy);
- The length of the front and hind legs (up to the bones of the upper joint);
- Girth of the front and rear legs.
The length of the tummy for dogs and bitches is different. When building a vest pattern or overalls for any breed, the lower part of the males are made shorter so that they can cope with free natural needs.
To cope with the patterns of the hood or cap, additionally measure the girth of the head and face, the distance between the ears. To make shoes you need to take measurements from the legs, determine their length and diameter.
Principles of building patterns
The construction of the pattern is done on approximately the same principle. It includes the following actions:
- On paper, a rectangle is drawn, one side of which corresponds to the length from withers to tail;
- On it mark points that correspond to the circumference of the breast and waist;
- Then mark the width of the back;
- They divide the width of the back into two equal parts, measure from the center the distance corresponding to one third of the neck circumference;
- Mark the neckline, connecting the above points in a semicircle;
- Calculate the size of the armhole for the hind and front legs, build a shoulder cut;
- Pattern necessarily includes a hole for the tail;
If you do not have the experience of self-construction schemes, you can copy the pattern. This should take into account the breed of the dog. For example, clothing for dachshunds and chihuahuas is different, since the parameters of the body of these little dogs have their own characteristics.
What clothes does a dog need?
There is clothing for a small dog that must be sewn for the winter. Each type has its own pattern. Some models just stitch, for example, a blanket. Others, such as a jumpsuit or knitted sweater, require skill.
For the winter, the dog is best to sew insulated overalls. Instead, you can tie a sweater, and on top of it cover with a vest of impermeable fabric. In the autumn, the doggie will need a blanket or vest without insulation, but protecting it from dampness.
The simplest pattern for any breed is a blanket. It is made of two parts – one closes the breast, the other back. For a girl, both parts are made the same; for a boy, the detail on the stomach should be shorter than on the back.
Tie blanket with ribbons or velcro stitched to its edges. To keep it better, make a special ring, which is mounted on the tail. Most of all blankets are suitable for active dogs, such as dachshunds, they are both warm and do not constrain movements.
Yorkshire Terrier or Chihuahua freeze more, they are small. The best clothes for them is a warm jumpsuit. Pattern overalls consists of 4-5 parts. Jumpsuit coveralls best done on the back.
The main panel is made whole or in two parts. Separately cut out the sleeves, then sew them to the main fabric. In the same way as a jumpsuit, you can make a waistcoat.
Only in such a pattern will not be sleeves. To the vest and jumpsuit you can sew a hood, then the dog will not need a hat. Patterns blouse, knitted, begin to build from the neck.
Then determine the length and width of the product, the armhole for the sleeves. When knitting should consider breed dogs. Short-haired toy terrier will feel great in a sweater. But york is better to make an additional lining, as its wool can get tangled under knitted clothes.
We have a little understood how the pattern is made for dogs of small breeds to sew clothes. But shoes can also be made independently. Winter boots sew from several types of fabric.
For the soles take the skin, suede or rubber. Below, shoes are made of thick fabric, at the top – of softer ones. Top can be knitted. First, cut a circle corresponding to the diameter of the paw, with a margin of 1-2 centimeters.
Then make the top of the tops. Its width should be equal to the girth of the foot, plus 1-2 cm of stock. The height of the tops for the hind legs should be slightly below the hock, and for the front legs – the knee.
In the upper part of the tops they make holes for braid to tie shoes on the foot of the dog. Velcro may be used instead.
