Utah's Public University Enrollments: A Rising Trend
Utah's public universities are experiencing a surge in enrollment, with a total of 216,116 students enrolled across the state's eight degree-granting institutions as of fall 2025. This marks a 4.2% increase from the previous year's enrollment of 207,005, according to data from the Utah System of Higher Education. Seven out of the eight institutions saw a rise in enrollment, with Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) leading the way with a remarkable 14.71% increase, reaching 31,473 students this year. This is the highest enrollment SLCC has seen since before the COVID-19 pandemic, and it includes growth across all student categories.
Utah Valley University (UVU) boasts the highest enrollment in the state, with 48,670 students, a 3.98% increase from the previous year. The University of Utah also saw a 3.48% increase, with 38,257 students enrolled, the highest in its history. Utah State University welcomed its largest-ever group of first-year students from Utah, with a total enrollment of 29,831, a 3.2% increase.
Southern Utah University and Weber State University also saw increases, with 15,825 and 33,293 students enrolled, respectively. However, Utah Tech University experienced the smallest increase at 0.3%.
This trend is notable as it contrasts with the enrollment declines seen in other parts of the country. The data highlights the growing appeal and accessibility of Utah's public universities, with institutions investing in student success through various initiatives, from access and affordability to academic support and career readiness. As enrollment rises, so does the potential for a more diverse and robust educational landscape in Utah.
