First of all, clothing is vital necessary small "pocket" dogs, such as:
- toy terriers;
- yorkshire terriers;
- Chinese crested;
These breeds of small dogs have very short and thin hair without undercoat, and crested breeds have no hair on their body, only in the ears, face and tail. The owners of such breeds, especially crested and Chihuahuas, should pay special attention to the wardrobe of their pets to avoid unnecessary hypothermia, pneumonia and other complications.
Each dog, and especially small dog breeds (such as Chihuahua), must have its own wardrobe. Of course, it is possible to do without decorative costumes and dresses. But warm clothes must be in the wardrobe:
- Overalls from raincoat waterproof fabric: such a thing will save your dog from hypothermia in cold weather, and your apartment from black puddles and stains;
- The overalls suit with a synthetic winterizer or fur fabric will save your pet from cold weather, dank winds and heavy snowfalls;
- A knitted sweater made of thick yarn or a shirt made of thick knitwear will protect the pet from small spring and autumn cooling;
- A warmer pad for dachshunds and other hunting breeds will help to protect the lungs of animals from hypothermia;
- It is also desirable that the wardrobe had boots on a waterproof sole that will save the legs of small breeds of dogs from hypothermia, frostbite, mechanical damage and chemical burns;
In order to build a pattern for your animal with your own hands, you must first remove it from your dog or from a similar dog of the same breed. all necessary measurements, i.e:
Head girth – above the eyes at the widest lower part of the ears;
Transfer measurements to patterns with their own hands
When transferring measurements to the pattern of future clothes you need take into account seam allowances. The hand-carved parts will be stitched and at the same time they should be free and not constrain the dog’s movements. Therefore, on the pattern with your own hands on each side should be left from 1 to 3 cm on the seams and free movement of the dog in clothes. After cutting out the pattern and sweeping it up, you need to put it on your dog and see if it is sitting well, doesn’t give the animal any discomfort and fit.
If according to all these parameters, the pattern of the village is good, then it can be stitched on a typewriter or carefully sewn manually. Fasteners, as a rule, are made on the back in the form of zippers, so it is easier to dress active and playful dogs before a walk.
The main and most common patterns
The back can consist not only of two parts, but also be single cut. The whole model consists of 4 parts of the pattern. The back and collar details are sewn along the BAB line, then the collar pattern is fastened into the ring with threads or buttons (clasps), and the T-belt pattern is attached at the bottom and secured with the help of it. At the end of the blanket you can fasten a loop for the tail. The blanket can also be made insulated by putting a sintepon or dense knitwear on the pad, but for such a model the pattern requires twice as much, that is, 8.
In this model, the back will be sewn from two patterns, and the stomach from one. If you want to make a warmed waistcoat, then the patterns will need to be cut twice as large and sew a layer of heat-insulating padding between them. The zipper is first sewn into the back part, and then the parts are sewn together.
Little dog sweater
This sweater can be sewn from a regular sleeve from an old sweater without using any pattern. The bottom of the sleeve will become a dog’s collar, you need to postpone the length of the back of your dog and, after sewing the sleeve, cut off all the excess. Then flush the holes for the legs and cut holes for them.
The suit consists of 11 parts: two patterns of the back, two patterns on each leg and one pattern on the tummy and breast. First, a lock is sewn between the two parts of the back, then the back is sewn with the detail of the abdomen, leaving holes for the sleeves. Each sleeve is sewn separately and then sewn to the main part of the jumpsuit. If you want to make a jumpsuit for a colder season, you need to cut out twice more parts, and between them get up warming details: a synthetic winterizer or faux fur, the inside can be cut out of a dense knitwear or wool, and the outside of waterproof material. Then the overalls can be put on the dog and in the cold, and in the snow and even in the rain instead of a raincoat.
The easiest way to sew a t-shirt for a dog is from an old children’s t-shirt, but it is worth remembering that the bottom of the t-shirt will remain convex along the back of the dog, and it will have to be shortened along the stomach. It is also necessary to take into account that the widest part of the dog’s body is the chest, and therefore the dress patterns should be swept away, having previously tried on and specified that the dog’s movements are not constrained. Only if the dog is comfortable in clothes, you need to sew a T-shirt.
In addition to sweaters, overalls and vests, a pet can be sewn with its own hands and decorative clothing, such as a dress. For the main part of the dress, a vest or t-shirt made of lightweight fabric is suitable, and a rectangular piece of fabric, equal in length to two girths of a dog’s belly, is suitable for a skirt. Additionally, the dress can be decorated with silk, chiffon, satin ribbons, beads or stripes.
In addition to sweaters and vests, you can also sew your pet with your own hands. hat or scarf and shoes. The main thing is that things are comfortable, comfortable, made from natural fabrics and not constraining the movements of the dog. All this will help your dog avoid drafts and complications from colds during the cold season.
